2020 The Year that Was – Four Winds Vineyard

4WINDS 2020
With 2020 firmly behind us, we’re taking the time to celebrate the 2020 wins (wines?) from last year that got us through the toughest year on record.
Who made wine, who made products out of wine, who thought outside the square when it came to wine tastings and who expanded their business model to not only get through 2020 but do so successfully?
First up this week, Sarah and John from Four Winds Vineyard.
In 2020 our crop was damaged by the smoke from the bushfires and we were unable to harvest any grapes. We contacted friends from wine regions around Australia and were able to track down this parcel of Mataro in South Australia’s Renmark area.

This off-dry rosé shows concentrated aromas of strawberry and cherries up front, with delicate rose petals and orange blossom. This wine pairs well with spicy style dishes. A fun wine made to drink now and enjoy with friends.

Unable to harvest any grapes for wine and unwilling to leave the great-looking crop for the birds we decided to make a gin. We teamed up with the team at The Canberra Distillery and undertook trials using varying percentages of Riesling juice and a range of botanicals. After many trials, this gin is the result.

It has the lovely floral and citrus flavours that you will find in our Riesling. The juniper, citrus and apple flavours will partner beautifully with your favourite tonic
