This high diurnal temperature range is what excites our winemakers – long, warm days for grape ripening with a sudden drop in night temperature to give the vines some rest. Our theme for this year’s program of events, ‘Fuel your inner fire with our Liquid Geography’ will give rise to how even in the midst of our cold winters in Canberra, our wines can fire your imagination and ignite a cooling passion for getting out and about. Our district is spread across Canberra, Hall, Murrumbateman, Yass, Bungendore, Lake George, Wamboin, Gundaroo and Collector.
The Fireside Festival is an introduction to what’s hot this winter in Canberra District wines. The Canberra region is famous for its quality cool climate wines showcasing the local terroir and innovation of our winemakers. Find yourself in front of a roaring fire this winter, warming your soul with local wines and filling your bellies with delicious food.

Head out to the cellar doors who are featuring their amazing winter wines, be they red or white, they’ll welcome you with social distanced but warm arms, as we head into our coldest month. Rug up in your winter woolies, sip fine wine and enjoy great food, what’s not to like?
Or stay in town where we’ll combine our love of local fine food and wine tasting experiences, education and hospitality.
Now is the time to support our local boutique winemakers, puffer jackets, beanies and boots on! Everyone will love this cozy celebration of the region’s famous produce and cool-climate wines.
Test out our regions reputation for first-class food beside a crackling log fire. Experience the region’s secret for staying faithful to local, farm-fresh produce. The connection between culinary pleasure and sustainability is central to the Canberra districts movement, with our reputation taking off across the country.
Head out into the countryside for a regional dining experience, be it Murrumbateman, Yass, Gundaroo, Wamboin, Bungendore or Hall and sit by a fire-inspired lunch at one of our fine restaurants matching views, food and local wines. Drink Pinot at a Lake George vineyards or sip shiraz in a candle-lit Murrumbateman cellar door, find a fortified red or a sparkling shiraz in Hall, enjoy a Muscat in Gundaroo, whatever your winter wine heart fancies, we have it.
Local winemakers will chat about the region’s diverse styles from Sangiovese to Riesling, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Shiraz and the different micro-climates that produce them, learn why our world class wines are so amazing. Or fan your creative fire at art exhibitions and poetry readings by local writers.
The Fireside Festival is not just about wine and food. It’s about having a conversation with inspirational people by the fireside or a series of musical experiences for the ultimate winter music sesh, all while snuggled into an oversized chair with a glass of Pinot Noir, ensuring that you’ve got the best of the cool climate wines to keep you fortified this winter.
The Festival finale will be a winter dinner to end all winter affairs at one of Canberra’s hottest restaurants.

Throughout the 3 weekend festival in August, make sure to include a visit to the vineyards and cellar doors, both inside and outside of the Canberra borders when preparing your Fireside itinerary. Get your feet ready for warming your ties by the fire, your senses ready for sensory wine classes, put your dancing shoes on for live music, buy some stretchy pants for all the food and wine pairings, and get out amongst it!

If you are visiting the Canberra district you will be spoilt for choice when it comes to accommodation. We have warm and inviting cabins at Tallagandra Hills Winery, overlooking the vines; or stay in the Gourmet Traveller Wine magazines Top Cellar Door Accommodation at Surveyor’s Hill Winery, then there’s Little George, the Lake George Winery little house. Or if you’re feeling adventurous, head to Yass and stay in a bed and breakfast or at the pub, a country stay is a must throughout a week of Canberra Wine festivities.
