From the vine to the glass: wines from the local Canberra cool climate wine district on show to delight the tastebuds.

“Fuel your inner fire with our Liquid Geography”

Did you know that Canberra’s continental climate is one of extremes: cold, crisp winters and hot, dry summers. This high diurnal temperature range is what excites our winemakers – long, warm days for grape ripening with a sudden drop in night temperature to give the vines some rest. Our theme for this year’s program of events, ‘Fuel your inner fire with our Liquid Geography’ will give rise to how even in the midst of our cold winters in Canberra, our wines can fire your imagination and ignite a cooling passion for getting out and about. Our district is spread across Canberra, Hall, Murrumbateman, Yass, Bungendore, Lake George, Wamboin, Gundaroo and Collector.

The Fireside Festival is an introduction to what’s hot this winter in Canberra District wines.  The Canberra region is famous for its quality cool climate wines showcasing the local terroir and innovation of our winemakers. Find yourself in front of a roaring fire this winter, warming your soul with local wines and filling your bellies with delicious food.

Ignite your passion for everything cool climate wine related and heed the seductive call of Canberra’s hottest wineries.

Head out to the cellar doors who are featuring their amazing winter wines, be they red or white, they’ll welcome you with social distanced but warm arms, as we head into our coldest month. Rug up in your winter woolies, sip fine wine and enjoy great food, what’s not to like?

Or stay in town where we’ll combine our love of local fine food and wine tasting experiences, education and hospitality.

Now is the time to support our local boutique winemakers, puffer jackets, beanies and boots on! Everyone will love this cozy celebration of the region’s famous produce and cool-climate wines.

Experience the region’s secret for staying faithful to local, farm-fresh produce.  The connection between culinary pleasure and sustainability is central to the Canberra districts movement, with our reputation taking off across the country.

Head out into the countryside for a regional dining experience, be it Murrumbateman, Yass, Gundaroo, Wamboin, Bungendore or Hall and sit by a fire-inspired lunch at one of our fine restaurants matching views, food and local wines. Drink Pinot at a Lake George vineyards or sip shiraz in a candle-lit Murrumbateman cellar door, find a fortified red or a sparkling shiraz in Hall, enjoy a Muscat in Gundaroo, whatever your winter wine heart fancies, we have it.

Local winemakers will chat about the region’s diverse styles from Sangiovese to Riesling, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Shiraz and the different micro-climates that produce them, learn why our world class wines are so amazing. Or fan your creative fire at art exhibitions and poetry readings by local writers.

The Fireside Festival is not just about wine and food.  It’s about having a conversation with inspirational people by the fireside or a series of musical experiences for the ultimate winter music sesh, all while snuggled into an oversized chair with a glass of Pinot Noir, ensuring that you’ve got the best of the cool climate wines to keep you fortified this winter.

The Festival finale will be a winter dinner to end all winter affairs at one of Canberra’s hottest restaurants.
