Sapling Yard Wines
About
The first Sapling Yard wine was produced in a small shed in Carla’s back yard in 2013. Carla is a Clinical Research Associate by day and Wine Maker by night. Carla enrolled in a Wine Science Degree in 2000 completing her last residential school in 2004 with newborn baby Mia accompanying her. A small 3-acre vineyard was subsequently planted in 2008 in Braidwood. Varieties included Pinot Noir, Gamay, Pinot Blanc, and Riesling. Prior to finishing her wine making degree Carla has worked in vintages in Orange, Hunter Valley, Macedon Victoria, and Oregon in the USA.
Sapling Yard moved to the Lake George Winery in 2019 and Carla was joined by another well-known local wine maker Malcolm Burdett.
Carla and Malcolm have produced vintages together since 2019 and have also secured a wonderful opportunity making a second label with Naked Wines, Bare Branches
Sapling Yard sources fruit from the Braidwood vineyard and quality fruit from the Canberra, Tumbarumba, and Hilltops Regions.
Carla and Malcolm are delighted to present their selection of wines to you. We strive to make interesting wines and like to experiment with different varieties, blends and wine making processes including barrel fermenting, stainless steel and skin contact, making what we like to think of as wines with texture, savouriness, great length and balance.
