Helm Wines

Helm Wines this year celebrated their 40th vintage, and 43 years of growing grapes in the Canberra Wine District, with further recognition of their premium wines by James Halliday and three wine show trophies.
James Halliday has noted Helm Wines as a 5 red star winery since 2012 putting it in the top 10% of wineries in Australia. He also rated the Helm 2016 Premium, Classic Dry and Tumbarumba Rieslings in the Weekend Australian June 11-12 2016 at 96, 95 & 95 points. This follows him rating the same wines but from the 2015 vintage at 97, 96 & 95, showing the consistent premium quality of their wines and among the best.
Helm Wines stopped entering Wines shows 4 years ago, but continue to support the Canberra Regional Show and the Australian Cool Climate Wine Show at Murrumbateman. This year they entered their Central Ranges Riesling 2016 into the ACCWS and made a clean sweep of the trophies; Best Riesling, Best White and Best Wine of Show. A wonderful acknowledgement of their 40 years of Riesling production in the Canberra District and great recognition of the Canberra District’s quality Rieslings as among the best in Australia.
Ken Helm Director and winemaker at Helm Wines also created the Canberra International Riesling Challenge 16 years ago and has guided it as chairman to the biggest event of its type in the world. It also has focused international attention on Canberra as a producer of premium wines.
A visit to Helm Wines in a quiet rural valley at the historic school house cellar door is a memorable experience, with Ken or Judith Helm guiding you through a tasting of their premium wines.
