We’re all self isolating, and although you might not be able to visit our wineries for a good old fashioned wine tasting session, this doesn’t mean you can’t still learn about all things wine. Now is probably the best time to virtually reconnect with your local winery and we have some fabulous wineries doing things a little outside the square.
Emma from Pique Nique is holding virtual tasting sessions that come with
- Tasting pack of your choice
- An hour of guided wine appreciation
- Instructions on how to prepare the wine before the tasting (for example, chilling or decanting) and suggestions for snacks and foods you can prepare to serve with the wines
- Access to an exclusive virtual tasting room where you can learn about the wines, then relax and catch up with your friends afterwards
Order your wine packs and book an upcoming tasting event over at the Pique Nique site

Although the Collector Wines Cellar Door is closed for the moment, they’re bringing the tastings to you! In their first video, Alex talks you through the Rose Red City Sangiovese. In future videos the Cellar Door and winery team will bring you their favourites, so if you have any questions you’d love to ask Alex or the team, leave a comment or send them a message!
Live virtual tastings are coming! Join the CBR Wine and Spirit team on Friday 24th April at 7pm for a tasting of Ravensworth’s new Estate release. Jump on their website to purchase a pack of either one, three or five wines and receive a Zoom meeting code to join them live in store with Bryan Martin from Ravensworth and Emma Shaw from Pique Nique. Ask questions, interact with regulars and enjoy a selection of great Canberra wines.
Keep an eye on their Facebook page for all upcoming virtual wine tasting events.
If you’re feeling a need to socially connect and you would like to have some fun, form a group with your family or friends and get everyone to grab an Ironcutter tasting pack. Once your group has their packs Brian will schedule a Zoom meeting where he will lead you through a tasting of each wine. Stock up on your favorite crackers and cheeses and settle in for an informal yet informative session where your input and discussion will be most welcome as you work your way through the wines.

Have you tasted any 2020s yet? We don’t normally rush to get wines bottled, but with the crop unusually small in our pinot gris vines last year, we’ve been out of our most popular wine. So yes, the 2020 was fast-tracked a little and is now bottled and released.
This is one of the two wines we’ve made this year with bought-in grapes, so it’s labelled slightly differently – Mount Majura rather than Mount Majura Vineyard. We’re rather pleased how it has turned out, but there are no plans to do this again – Mount Majura Vineyard is definitely sticking to its single-vineyard identity!
Fitting in with the times, we would like to invite you to a live virtual tasting of the new Pinot Gris at 6pm on Thursday 21 May. We’ll tell you a bit about the wine and how it was made, answer your questions and discuss it with you. We will post the link here for the event and go live on facebook. If you would like to order some so that you can taste along with us, please do so soon, as deliveries seem to be a little slow at the moment.
So, put on your best pj’s and most comfortable slippers, pour yourself a glass of wine, sit back and let the wine education begin.
