Canberra District Wines Kicking Goals!

As if you need another excuse to head out and visit some of our wonderful Canberra winemakers or choose some at your local bottle shop or restaurant, our members have been getting accolades at several competitions lately. 

Crowe Wines 2018 Riesling took top gold with 97 points for the 2018 Dry Riesling class from this years Canberra Regional Wine Show.

Enotria Wines placed third being for the 2017 Pinot Winemaker Selection, plus they picked up 2 medals at the recent Canberra and Region Wine show: Silver for their 2017 Pinot Noir and Bronze for the 2017 Cabernet Franc.

Gundog Estate  also won GOLD for their 2018 Riesling (Dry White, Riesling 2018 Vintage) and Bronze for their 2017 Rose (Dry Red Wines, Rose- Any Vintage) and 2017 Estate Shiraz (Shiraz including Shiraz/Viogner 2017 & 2018 Vintage) at the Canberra and Region Wine Show.

Helm Wines also saw leading wine critic and writer Huon Hooke from The Real Review has rated the Helm Riesling 2016 top gold with 96 points and top Riesling of NSW out of 30 tasted. Plus he also awarded all five Helm 2018 Rieslings Silver awards with points ranging from 91 to 94 points. 

Kerralee Wines Pinot noir Rose’ was awarded a bronze at the Australian Cool Climate Wine Show.

Also Shaw Vineyard Estate saw its 2015 Reserve Merriman Cabernet Sauvignon recently won 2 Trophies at the International Wine Challenge in London and it was named the Best Australian Cabernet Sauvignon. Plus it’s 2016 Estate Merlot has also picked up a Trophy at the Riverina Wine Show, Double Gold at the China Wine & Spirit Awards and Gold at the International Wine Challenge in Vienna.

Lake George Winery picked up the Top Gold Award at the Canberra Region Wine Show, for the 2018 Rose, this is the first time a Gold has been given out in this category. Plus they also picked up a Bronze Medal for at the Australian Cool Climate award show too. 

Finally, Lark Hill Winery also recently received a Gold Medal for their 2018 “Canberra Region” Riesling and 2017 “Lark Hill Vineyard” Riesling, plus Silver Medals for their 2018 Lark Hill Vineyard Riesling and 2018 Dark Horse Vineyard ‘Mr.V’ at the Canberra Regional Wine Show.

Plus their Lark Hill 2018 Canberra Region and 2017 Lark Hill Vineyard Riesling were used by Chair of Judges Seb Crowther MS as a demonstration of the quality and versatility of Canberra Riesling in his Show Masterclass. 

Not to mention that Mount Majura Vineyard winemaker Frank van de Loo was recently a finalist for Gourmet Traveller’s Wine Maker of the Year Award.
